#10 Frustration and Triumphs and Blog

Well lets be honest not everything in life goes as planned!! And this week I certainly found that to be true.
My plans for my summer included staying on top of all the projects I have committed myself to, and this week I wanted to get caught up on the Flower Patch QAL, the Virtual Quilting Bee QAL , Craftsy Block of the Month, and finish the assigned work for the String of Pearls QAL, and if I was lucky some odds and ends. Ambitious?? Sure! Doable?? I wanted to find out!! lol
I started with the Flower Patch:  I don't know why this pattern is giving me so much trouble! It is beautiful and I have made all the components of the blocks before, but for some reason right from the start I have had problems. (Completed blocks, aren't they cute!! But they're evil!! lol)

First problem arose right at the beginning of the  QAL, while trying to figure out the pattern,  I sewed the background fabric in the wrong place which resulted in me hunting everywhere to buy more fabric! (can't find it anywhere in Canada, ??) Than this week while trying to get 4 more blocks done, I must have sewn on the wrong line when doing my pedal corners, resulting in 3 units being 1/4" too small when I went to sew my blocks together.  ERRR!! Not a great day!!
So I packed it up and put it all away for a few days!!
So now 4 days later, I have re cut the pieces and sewn all pieces together up to the rows, and will complete that another day!!
Someday I am going to truly appreciate all the hard work I am putting into this quilt, but right now is not that day!!! : )

Now onto the smooth sailing part of my week....
I have all my String of Pearl QAL blocks done and 2 rows are already sewn together!! I have till the 17th to complete the top! To stay on track.

I'm all caught up on the Virtual Quilting Bee!! And found a new photo editing app!! Fun!! ( Rhonna Designs, thanks to Amber of One Shabby Chick Hawaii)

I'm ahead in my cutting from the City Sampler QAL. (You can see all my pictures with the Flickr and Instagram links above)
And I am about half way through sewing my 1/2 hexies, for the Bloom Bloom Pow QAL.
So I didn't get the Craftsy BOM caught up or do any extra stuff, but all in all, even with the frustrating, bumpy start to my sewing week,  I still managed to accomplish a great deal more than I thought I might!!
This week....more of the same...hopefully without the frustrating parts!!

  1. We all have our frustrating days/weeks, and we need to be willing to share them so that others will not get discouraged when it happens to them. Thanks for sharing yours.
Your blocks look good. Which Craftsy BOM are you working on? I'm working on both.

    1. Forgive me if this is a repeat reply!!
Thanks for the encouraging words! And I have the blocks all completed for 2012, just need to sash and quilt it! I'm working slowly on 2013. There are a lot of new techniques I've never done. I finally got my hands on freezer paper which isn't readily available in Canada. I don't like having to make templates!! So hopefully in the next few weeks I will get all caught up!!

I have 4 complete rows sew together now, so over half way done the top. And I too love #6, partly for the pattern, and I love purple!! And I was really happy with the way the shades worked with each other!!

  3. Oh, it's so nice to hear that I'm not the only one that has sewing days like this! Not that I wish them on anyone else!

I've been enjoying seeing your progress on Flickr, I didn't realize you had a blog too until I saw the Christa Quilts! blog post today. Thank you for sharing all of your work and experiences with your quilting! It feels so familiar to me... I'm a newer quilter (only about a year), and took on a bunch of BOM's & QAL too. I was traveling for about 3 weeks in June, and it totally set me back since I couldn't sew at all! I finally feel "caught up", but also am throwing in extra projects here and there that I've been wanting to do... I so relate to what you've written!

Great blog post, I really enjoyed reading it!

    1. Thank you so much, Christine!! It is fun keeping a blog, like a journal to look back on, see my own progress. It's nice to hear it is helpful too, to others!!
I've been quilting just a bit longer than you and I am having a blast!! Though I have put a lot on my plate of late, I think I will have to calm down, and not try to learn and do everything at once!! lol
3 weeks of travel, sounds like fun!!

  7. I hereby dub you the quilt along Queen! Thats a lot of projects and they are looking awesome. The last two block of the VQB were a little too tricky for me, but I am really liking that quilt along(my first). Getting ready to start the Prism along at 13Spools. Should be fun. See ya soon.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and leaving such nice comments, Sassy Quilter! My first QAL was Craftsy BOM 2012, learned a lot!! I am way behind on 2013 version! Partially because I couldn't find freezer paper in Canada and I hate making templates, I want to use accurate rulers!! I finally found some paper at a new quilt shop, so I just need to buckle down and get it done!
I will have to check out the 13spools, lol, not that I need anything else to tempt me into another project!! but it is just so much fun!!
