#02 Wake Up To Kona Blog Hop!!



Thanks for dropping by...for those of you who are first timers here at my blog, my name is Sandy. I've been quilting a little over 2 years now and blogging for about 6 months!! I'm a mother of 3 grown kids and have been married to my farmer for 28.5 yrs!!

 This is my second Blog Hop as a contributor and it has been so much fun!!

I want to thank Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for cheering the Wake Up to Kona Blog Hop, and allowing me to participate!! And of course Madame Sam and all the sponsors making this Blog Hop possible.
I knew I had to be a part of a Blog Hop that was all about Kona Solids,  especially since I finished a quilt top this year during the  Virtual Quilting Bee I joined over at Diary of a Quilter with Kona Solids!! The background is Kona White and each block is various shades of one colour. 





My first quilt in solids!! Got to love Kona!!
Just needs a border and backing!!  










Of course that wasn't enough for me to post about and I wanted a project that featured one of the new lines from Kona. I found an Atkinson Pattern I purchase a few months ago called "Hot Stuff"and placed an order with Mad About Patchwork for the Kona Sunrise Roll-Up, and here's what I made!!

 A Casserole Carrier






 BUT.......I had another Roll-Up, Kona Dark, and the pattern comes with 2 sizes. The above is for a 13X9". So I also made this.....










This one is for a 3 Quart Casserole!!



When you are making the casserole carrier you trim it down and them angle the ends....
So with the extras that were cut off, because I don't like to waste anything if I can help it (I'm sure you feel the same way!!), I made these...

Some Coasters.....










and a couple of hot pads to bring with your travelling casseroles!!


I hope I have inspired you to get creative with some Kona Solids too!!

    Beautiful projects all! I really love the casserole cover pattern. Prettiest pattern for this that I have seen. All the extra little projects, the coasters and hot pads are a great addition.     Oh these are just fabulous and I love how you used every bit of that lovely Kona Kolor!! I haven't met a Kona I don't like, but black, white, and snow are on the shelf by the bolt as a staple.

    A very nice use of colors! I especially like your coasters! One of my favorite colors is chartreuse from Kona! I actually have my hallway entrace painted this color! Keep sewing your heart out and sharing with us!

    Love your quilt! I will say my favorite Kona solid is Snow because Snow is the perfect (for me) blend in for all the lovely blues, purples, greens, pinks .... well for all the other beautiful Kona solids! Happy quilting.

    I have to say I think I love all their colours, my hop project is my first time using Kona and I love my little needle case...Kona fabric is amazing! I'd love to try their weaveline fabrics next. Your casserole carriers are fabulous! Your quilt is very pretty. I just love practical items a lot! Thanks for sharing!

    I love the Sunrise colours. I have been collecting Kona FQs in the yellow-orange-red colours for a project. Just wish I knew what the project is!! Is someone from the UK eligible for the giveaway? If so I'll keep my fingers crossed, if not, I'll understand.

    My favorite Kona is Robin Egg. I have used lots of Kona for backgrounds and some in my piecing but haven't done an all solids project yet. It's definitely on my list! Your projects are gorgeous!

    I'm a fairly new quilter so I havn't used many kona solids yet. I have tried white, eggshell and yarrow. I liked all of them and have plans to try more soon. You didn't say if you will ship the jelly roll internationally or not - I'm in the UK.

    I love the Kona fabric. When I signed up for the hop I didn't know where to get this material and went on the internet and was lucky to find Mad about Patchwork. The shipping is great and I had my order within the week. They are now one of my favorite stores. Thanks for sharing your beautiful projects and any fabric from Mad about Patchwork would be great.

    Most of my projects have Kona in them! I use "snow" and "white" a good bit, but also use "charcoal" as a background. I tend to buy it by the bolt at my LQS! My latest project is a secret squirrel project that I can't show you, but it uses "charcoal". Thanks for the chance to win!

    I absolutely LOVE Kona and use it for all my solids in quilting. I use quite a lot of white but I can truly say that I love all the Kona colors and slowly, but surely I am trying to collect them all.As far as the Sunrise and Sunset, I love them both.Thanks for the chance to win.

    My latest solids project involves Kona chartreuse, tangerine, and a grey that I can't remember the name of but suffice it to say that chartreuse and tangerine together scream out for the grey's calming influence! I love Kona's vibrant colors.

    What beautiful work! I love those casserole carriers in the Kona. I have a spider web quilt in the works that uses a butterscotch colored Kona solid, but I'm not sure of the exact color.

    I haven't made a complete Kona quilt yet but love the off white and white. And of course I use lots of their black:) My daughter and I used some Kona to stitch her Dr Who wall hanging. Still working on it:)

    Wow! You have been busy! I love Kona solids and use snow and white on a regular basis but I have a stash of many colors all labeled so I can easily buy more when needed. I have made a couple of Kona solid projects but these inspire me to do more! Thanks!

    I've never made a solid colored quilt before but almost all of the solids I do buy are Kona. You can get just about any color you want from them! I can't say that I have a favorite color of it though.

    Beautiful projects and I love finding something to make with the leftovers too. my favorite kona solid to work with is the pure white as i love to do hand embroidery. my favorite color to look at is the bright red.

    I'm using some wonderful Kona yellows to finish up someone's abandoned quilt top. It's a practice piece before trying to quilt our bed quilt. My first try at quilting something big......it's a little scary.

    I have used mainly Kona Solids as white (snow) and cream, for backgrounds. But I do love their colors! You are very inspiring to try a quilt using solids! Love the casserole carriers, too. They are too pretty to get any food spilled on them!!

    I love all colors Kona. My last Kona project was done with 10" squares of Kona that I received in a swap. I made up my own "modern" blocks and played around a lot until I liked the placement. It sits......patiently waiting for me to get around to quilting it.

    Oh, what a lovely Kona Solid quilt--I love the use of so many different colors and patterns. Beautiful! That Kona Sunrise is out of this world! It made such a bright casserole cover--I would hate to use it, but I would. I can just imagine all of the comments if I took it to a church potluck. Beautiful, beautiful work!

There are so many Kona solids I am not sure which is my favorite colour as each one I have used has fit its purpose perfectly.     I haven't made an all solid quilt or project yet. I usually use Kona to pair up with prints for HST's, so far my favorite color has been Ash as it goes with so many prints. I do have some Kona Deep Blue to use as sashing for my grandson's quilt.

    I love the blocks you did in your quilt. Using different shades of one color and the white background really made the color pop. Those casserole carriers are just too cute.     Your quilt top is beautiful. I like how you used values of the same color in your blocks. Very, very nice. Then I love the casserole carriers. I have been wanting to make one and, well, you know time. I love Kona solids. I am using them for one of the rounds in my hand pieced Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt. I just purchased two shades of gray. My daughter thinks that's what she wants me to use as sashing, etc. for a t-shirt quilt made from her college sorority t-shirts. I also bought enough Kona blue for backing (and to try to add some color to the front). I think she's going to have a drab quilt unless she lets Mom have some input. But, it's not my quilt - I just get to make it. Thanks for participating and being a great inspiration.

    I love the Hot Stuff pattern and of course Kona solids. I have been quilting about the same length of time you have and I am inspired by how much you have done. I tend to use Kona solids for borders and binding, however I did make one quilt that was 50% Kona solids in HSTs from a Purple People Easter fat quarter bundle.
