If you are a follower you will recognize me by now I think, but if you are new,
Welcome to my Upstairs Hobby Room!!
My name is Sandy, and I have been quilting for the last 3 years and blogging for almost 2.
I'm a wife and mother of 3 grown kids ( a daughter and 2 sons ), one married, one out on his own, and one still at home. I live in rural Ontario, on a working farm, and love it. I've always liked to sew, knit, crochet and craft, I even did woodworking for awhile, but when I landed on quilting that was it, I am hooked! I still knit and crochet, but all other creative outlets have fallen away.
Three fun facts: I'm tall (5'10"), I love dark chocolate, and I turn 50 in Februrary. (I'm sure you are bored by now, so on to the BOM!! lol)
I hope everyone is getting just as excited about the start of the Sew Sweet Simplicity BOM. If you are here and haven't heard about it, use the link below to get all the info and sign up! There is still plenty of time, the first block release is Oct 27th!!
If you like Quilting, embroidery, applique....
This is for you, especially if you want to combine them..
so many options...
I had a great time tossing around what I was going to make, what fabrics I would use and how I would construct my blocks. With all the options it was hard to go with just one idea, so I'm doing 2 different projects.
1. A table runner
2. A Mini quilt....more info on this to come
All organized and in a bin (! use the 13" scrapbooking bins at Michaels), my first project material. You will have to wait to see the rest. Anyone recognize the fabric?
And don't forget to enter the giveaway for the fantastic PDF Pattern Bundle
This prize is open to everyone!! Good luck!!
a Rafflecopter giveaway
I am not sure. Maybe embroidery.
ReplyDeleteI would like to do applique! thank you!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy appliqué. Love your picture with the like showing between the boards.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait! :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't decide between embroidery and needle turn appliqué, but either way I want to make it all by hand.
ReplyDeleteApplique!
ReplyDeleteI am a big embroidery fan.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be doing applique
ReplyDeleteYay! Your comment box isn't embedded so I actually CAN comment! Thank you! I enjoyed reading your oh-so-humorous introduction. I've been signed up for ages, even posted about the BOM twice on my QuiltBOM blog. Just waiting for the 27th!
ReplyDeleteI haven't decided. Maybe embroidery since I have a lot of embroidery floss I can use.
ReplyDeleteI am still learning to accent my quilts, bags etc., But my current love is applique. Thank you for the inspiration. "Sew" happy I found your page.
ReplyDeleteI am still up in the air on what i want to do. But, since I have been practicing my FMQ, I should use the negative space for quilting.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking the appliqué. I also love embroidery but quilting negative space is my worst skill so I will skip that.
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you!
ReplyDeleteNot sure!!
ReplyDeleteHELLO, love your Blog! I'll be doing some embroidery,Redwork on my quilted wall hanging for a Christmas gift! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletemsstitcher1214@gmail.com
Probably negative space!
ReplyDeleteApplique by machine.
ReplyDeleteI think it will be machine appliqué for me!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking applique but I might decide to do embroidery!
ReplyDeleteI love adding applique to my quilts!
ReplyDeleteI think negative space would allow me some needed FMQ practice! MMM, I LOVE Figgy Pudding.
ReplyDeleteI will be 49 in Feb.
i'm not sure what i like best. i'm a beginner with quilting, and not too swift with applique and embroidery. i think i enjoy embroidery more because i find it easier to transport and probably because i have a bit more confidence. sometimes i cant make the turns in needle turn applique as nice as they should be. but then there arent any police watching to see what i'm doin. i'm my own worst enemy. but thank you for the free giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, more than likely a mix of all of them.
ReplyDeleteAlways leave room for some fun quilting! Love negative space!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I will be doing applique.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start my first modern quilt and try to leave negative space.
ReplyDeleteI'd say I'd try and tackle the applique and embrodiery.
ReplyDeleteLove your holiday fabrics. I think I have the same one or a similar one (the one that looks like candy to me)! I am not yet sure if I'll be doing embroidery or applique yet.
ReplyDeleteI might leave negative space for some quilting, but I might change my mind!
ReplyDeleteI will probably leave negative space for quilting as I'm not certain on how to embroider or applique. Though I should learn as both techniques have beautiful effects.
ReplyDeleteI will probably do applique
ReplyDeleteI would like to combine applique and hand embroidery. The pattern bundle is fantastic and I need it. Let the fun begin
ReplyDeletekatztoo at exede dot net
I will probably try to somehow combine both embroidery and applique on mine!!
ReplyDeleteI think Embroidery would be my choice
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to use my focal fabric in the center instead of applique or embroidery.
ReplyDeleteI am still thinking about it but leaning more towards the applique.
ReplyDeleteProbably will do both!
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning heavily towards embroidery ... maybe a little applique thrown in! I love your project organizer! I need a couple of those, especially for my wool projects! Your blog is darling and I'm very glad I stopped by ... I'll be adding it to my favorites! :)
ReplyDeleteKinda leaning to embroidery right now...am learning Applique...but am soooo slow! lol
ReplyDeleteApplique would be my choice, although I could work on my embroidery!
ReplyDeleteI will be leaving space for quilting. sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteI am still not sure what color way I will be going with. But think I might be swaying for a modern feel!
ReplyDeleteI'll be using applique in some, space for quilting in others. Thanks for the fun BOM and giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning toward doing the applique.
ReplyDeleteI will probably do applique!
ReplyDeleteSusie
I will do machine appliqué for my blocks! Looking forward to this!
ReplyDeleteApplique for sure and embroidery if my hands are in the mood....
ReplyDeleteI love embroidery, sew guess that is what I would do!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, i like the idea of leaving negative space for quilting, but applique might win out!
ReplyDeleteI am going with applique, maye some embroidery thrown in,
ReplyDeleteI think I will have to wait and see. I have several applique and embroidery projects going on right now, so I think I might just go with the regular piecing.
ReplyDeleteMy email is bestbelle2010@aol.com
Thanks for the chance to win!
I am not sure. I think I will make the decision once the top is finished!
ReplyDeleteI think a little applique, a little open space. Not much of an embroiderer. Cant wait.
ReplyDeleteI'm in on this one
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking all three--embroidery, applique and some negative space. The options could be all or some depending on the design. I'm glad to see your blog in the hop. Now a follower thru Bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance at the giveaway.
I'm in. Will be doing applique.
ReplyDeleteIm in. I will be piecing.
ReplyDeleteI plan on using all three- embroidery, applique and some great use of negative space.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower too!!
FinnFinn1@yahoo.com
I'm doing all of it! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, I think I will be using masculine fabric for my son, so I think I will have to play it by ear.
ReplyDeleteI will do applique and leave some negative space open for quilting
ReplyDeleteLee S.
I love all of it and am noit as good on some of the aspects but amd going to do my best love to win and more ready to start.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what I will do. But it seems I surely will have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteAlready picked my fabrics and can't wait to start!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll need to do applique!
ReplyDeleteProbably applique but not sure yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling more comfortable with piecing and even managed the curves of an apple core quilt. Actual quilting is proving my hang-up at this point. However, I'm game to try applique on one block - just not ready to applique a whole quilt! I like your idea of making a table runner with this BOM.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I'd like to try embroidery but really can't wait to see what everyone else is doing
ReplyDeleteYou are brave to be doing 2 different ones. Looks like fun and like your colors.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog, can't wait to check it out and start this BOM!
ReplyDeleteWow - I didn't realize there were options, love to embroider.
ReplyDeleteI plan on doing a little of each style and mixing it up a bit.
ReplyDeletelooks like fun
ReplyDeleteI think I am doing embroidery, I do it lots.
ReplyDeleteI'll be doing applique and embroidery and I can't wait to start.
ReplyDeleteI need hand stitchery to do while riding with my hubby, not that he isn't boring but I find this so relaxing. Is there a picture of what we're going to do so I know how to pic out colors so please, someone email me back (gramachris@charter.net)?
ReplyDeleteChris from Wisconsin - USA
I think I'll do applique on the block of the month. Should be pretty.
ReplyDeleteProbably a combination of applique and negative space quilting. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletetdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com
I love applique and embroidery...and am looking forward to this BOM!
ReplyDeleteEither applique or negative space.
ReplyDeleteI am not positive yet. I think some applique. Thanks so much
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that I would like to do a combination of embroidery and applique. This looks like a fun project and I will enjoy making it with my granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I'll do embroidery or applique... I haven't done any embroidery since I embroidered flowers and mushrooms and peace signs all over my jeans back in the 60's... oops, dating myself ;->
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the Block of the Month.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that I will do machine applique.
ReplyDeleteInitially, I plan on TRYING the embroidery and applique but if I think I might just stick with the blank center fabric
ReplyDeleteI am not a huge fan of applique, but I do force myself to do it from time to time. :) Really excited for this BOM
ReplyDeleteMachine applique for me... can't wait to start
ReplyDeleteI want to do some of each, embroidery and applique. Looking forward to it!

ReplyDeleteI am so glad to have found your blog! I jumped over here from Jacquelynne's blog! I am leaning towards embroidery.
ReplyDeleteWill prolly either fussy cut or leave blank for quilting.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide, but I'm leaning towards embroidery. I haven't done that on a quilt yet. cdahlgren at live dot com
ReplyDeleteI thinks some applique and embroidery as I enjoy doing both
ReplyDeleteI may do some machine embroidery. Maybe some free motion quilting.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking applique
ReplyDeleteI love Jacquelynne''s BOM. I'm going to do appliqué with the pieced blocks.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it!!Hi to a fellow Canuck!!
ReplyDeleteHave been embroidering for a long time so yes. Like to applique and then apply colorful stitches around the edges to enhance the overall look and feel.
ReplyDeleteI plan on machine embroidery. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI think I will piece the blocks, but am still open to applique and embroidery too....will have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteSweet quilts.

I'd thought to do applique but now I'd love the blank space for quilting possibilities.
ReplyDelete50 is a wonderful age and I hope you enjoy your year at it. I look forward to Jacquelynne's qal; I love her sense of design.
ReplyDeleteI think I will include a combination of all of the ideas. Have to wait and see how this goes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not brave enough to do applique, so am thinking of either carefully cutting material to make it look like it's appliqued, or just sticking with the piecing.
ReplyDeleteI just turned 50 too in April!! I'm not that great a quitting but getting better. Made the grand babies Xmas quilts this year. I will check out your site!! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI beat you to the 5-0 milestone and it wasn't as painful as I had anticipated.
ReplyDeleteI have been missing having a stitchery project going, since I've been a quilter, so I think I'll stitch the blocks to combine both my loves.
Those organizers with the handles are awesome. I love keeping all my works in progress in them.
ReplyDeleteI think I will be doing embroidery. I love applique but embroidery goes faster for me. I am looking forward to this project.
