#1000NamesWins......Eddycrest Sewing Furniture.....Naming Contest!!!

When I say this is Big....I am not kidding.....but how Big? That depends purely upon all of you!!!!

I'll explain in a minute, but first, let me tell you a little bit about

I first became aware of Eddycrest Sewing Furniture while on a shop hop here in Ontario, Canada. 

It was love at first sight, when I saw the sewing table set up in Country Patchworks 

but I wasn't ready to purchase at the time, because I was still saving for my longarm.

Fast forward a few years and again on the same shop hop, with my husband this time, who is my rock and supports my quilting hobby 100 percent. He also is so much better about spending money on me then I am. Why is it that women feel guilty.... even now that my kids are full grown... I still struggle with spending larger amounts of money 

on things that are "just for me".....

My husband calls them "investment pieces", Happy Wife, Happy Life, lol

and asks me...will they be used, will they make things easier, 

will they last...yes, yes and yes!!!

He's the best, and so right! (don't tell him I said that, 😉)

Ok...back to the original post.....

We ended up going back and taking an Eddycrest shop tour....and let me tell you, it's impressive!

Starting with the C.N.C. machine that cuts out each blank sheet of baltic birch

The sewing tables are then routered, sanded and branded by the talented Eddycrest team

The Top Secret finishing process comes next and let me tell you it is smooth!!

(no pictures of that though...lol)

Then the tables are assembled and ready to ship to all us happy customers!! 

You can see in the first picture I ended up buying a Short Right and a Standard....I'll share more pictures and my experience (all good) in another post, being as this is probably going to be my longest post to date, and you are probably anxious to get to the contest......

And I bet by now you are also wondering what the big surprise is.......

Well the Eddycrest team is expanding their product line to include another sewing table size...

It's just perfect for a small room sewer, compact in size, but with the same quality and craftsmanship that Eddycrest puts into all their products......

New Challenges...With Fun Fabrics

If you have been following my blog or IG account (@upstairshobbyroom)  for any length of time you know I love a new challenge!!

I love trying new projects, love pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, 

and love love love fabric!!!

First up Mary Fons'  India Prints  from the Small Wonders Collection

I loved the cute little elephant and camel print and knew I had to pair it with the yellow print and just for fun the Ditsy Purple print, which I have been calling pink...oops! It was the pop of colour I needed for the inside of my Classmate Tote.

I just love how this tote turned out! I have to say sewing with vinyl has its challenges, but the pattern gives you some ideas on how to deal with it. I will be making more of these with my own spin and modifications...so look for a post on that coming soon! 

Look for another project coming using these remaining FQ from the collection!!

Next is this Wide Back fabric also part of the Small Wonders line

I normally use solids with a pieced strip for my backings, but it is so nice sometimes just to be able to have fabric large enough to get your quilt top finished without all the extra work of piecing. It is also great to find wide back fabric that is the same quilt shop weight and quality as the fabric I piece with,  because I have run into some backing fabrics that are too thin for my liking.

This lovely Signature Red print is now up on the long arm waiting for me to finish this post and quilt a long over due quilt top,  I made back in 2013, ....don't judge me, 😳!

It's going to be perfect for the back of my Virtual Quilting Bee quilt top !!

and a little Soak Flatter later, the mailing folds and 3 years of waiting folds vanish.....and we are ready to quilt.

The last fabric in my awesome package is this home decor weight called Bee Croft. We live just around a country corner from a BeeKeeper and buy all our honey directly from his store! So this is such a fun print...and I'm still deciding what I want to make with it, but thought I'd give you a little teaser peak....how cute!

April's One Block Wonder BOM....Diamond Path

Finishing up with March:

I fell in love with this one....hope you feel the same way. It's another easy sew and jelly roll friendly ...if you have one laying around that you have been wanting to use!!
But I have to be honest...insert goofy grin here...I was having so much fun with this one, I actually forgot to take pictures  as I was making the blocks/quilt!! Totally "Loopy" of me! And this quilt is totally done...quilted and bound (pictures to come)!!!
So I had to cut out and make an extra lone block, just for the tutorial...oops.

What you will need: 8 different prints/fabrics, plus your accent and your background fabrics

Cut on your drawn line or down the centre to separate into 2

Trim

and press open

Now lay out your pieces and start construction: (I am so sorry about these pictures, should have checked them, and it's too late now...)

In chain piecing fashion I worked across the block joining the prints to the BG. Pressed the seams. There are only a few seams that actually line up in this block and they only happen when putting blocks together, so sewers choice on how you want to press your seams.

When your column are made, you can then start joining them together.

And that's it...your first block is together. It is such a fast block.

What happens when you put 4 blocks together you ask.....
