It's a "Dog's World" Fun and Games Quilt

I was super excited to get to work with "Dog's World" fabric from Red Rooster Fabrics...
The prints are so much fun and the colours are so bright and cheery...also being a dog person...they just make me smile!

I mean how can you not love these doggie selfies???
You can't possibly look at these and not smile....no way....

I knew right away what I wanted to make........
Soon after I started quilting I bought a very simple design software and made a checker board quilt for my nephew. I have since added a version of that checker board pattern to the back of a friends quilt, so her boys could use it as a game board, and I've always meant to make one for my home too!
It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this fun collection of prints....so off to EQ7 and this is what I came up with......I'm calling this one "Fun & Games" Quilt

 Checkers on one side....
(Did you notice the doggie selfies? One set of three faces, face each player......they are so cute)

and on the other side....Tic Tac Toe....4 different boards.....

again with the cute dogs at either end....just couldn't help myself....still makes me smile!

And what does every games quilt need....a cute pouch to hold the game pieces of course!

I didn't have a pattern...the checkers are 3" wide, (thank you Cracker Barrel! My Mother-in-law picked them up for me a few years ago, on a trip south of the border) so I knew I had to make the pouch a good size to hold them all.
I came up with a cross between a pouch, clutch and the Sew Together Bag....and I'm happy to say it turned out.

Yes, there were a few false starts, some stitch ripping and even some lost fabric.....and....

I promised a story about the cute little white paw label...
Let's just say it was messy, a needle's life was lost and fabric was hurt.....yikes
So I fussy cut a paw, folded fabric bias tape style and put a "bandage" on it!! 👍🏻👍🏻

and how cute is that?
and you won't give away my secret will you.... 😉

I was hoping to share the patterns with you, but they all need further tweaking and testing so keep your eyes open for them in the near future. If you don't want to miss anything, think about following along via email or BlogLovin, both can be found in my sidebar. Also all my patterns to date can be found in my Craftsy Pattern Shop and that link is also in my sidebar. (enough self promoting)

How about a giveaway.....

What's On My Cutting Table....

I've been very lucky and fortunate to be able to work with P&B Textiles as a kind of fabric ambassador...

What does that mean....I get to work with amazing fabrics and be creative and make things that I hope inspire you....to be creative too!!
I usually get to choose, but sometimes I'm asked to work with a line that may challenge my comfort zone, that stretches my creative muscles....and sometimes I choose a fabric just to challenge myself....because, I truly love a good challenge!  I figure, every lesson won or lost creatively is a learning and growing experience that will expand the way I look at or see things. I have to say though, I'm not sure I have ever had a total losing experience creatively......but I have been totally blown away by falling in love with a project that I wasn't sure I even liked at the start. This first fabric line, Kismet, falls into that stretching and learning category.... but, oh the satisfaction when you come out on the other side having learned something and with a project that exceeds your expectations and just makes you smile!!!

Funny, now on the other side of making this project, I'm not even sure what slowed me down...the colours are amazing, the prints are so fun...but it just didn't come together for me until I added the Color Weave line into the mix!!
I  think that is one of the most important lessons in quilting, keep playing around with your fabric combinations...add, subtract, move the placements around...you might be surprised at what finally makes it work for you....

and I got so inspired, I even came up with a new pattern......which still needs a few tweaks, so look for it soon....in my Craftsy Pattern Shop
I'm calling this one Kismet Shuffle...and voila...a fun mini, I turned into a pillow!!
I 'm really becoming a fan of the mini! and pillows!! I cut, pieced, quilted and finished this all in one day....that's a win!!

It's hard to see but the white fabric is one of the Ramblings tone on tone white prints! They are so fun to add to projects too, very subtle texture and pattern!

I used the tutorial on Sew Mama Sew, by Autum from Creative Little Daisy, to add a zippered flap to my pillow back....and had to come up with a creative way to make my pillow back fabric with the love birds work, because it was just a fraction (1/4"🙄) too short to use. So I added a extra strip of the teal Color Weave to the bottom to match the flap and finished it with topstitching to make it a decorative feature....like it was meant to be and not a fix....You'll keep my secret....right?😜

and as it turns out that extra strip looks fantastic! If I can say so myself...

and it's a real toss up now as to which side I love more......all the real work is on the front, but these love birds....come on, don't they grab your heart strings too??

Update:  I Took all the leftover and made a few Sew Together Bags....💙💙💙how they turned out!!

I made the outside using a quilt as you go technique...you can find a previous tutorial I wrote here.

Next up on the Cutting Table

Have you ever seen a fabric line's Sample Card? These showed up with my fabrics...
and I'm loving them!!

They show all of the line and can even list coordinating colours from other lines...what a fantastic tool for quilt shop buyers to have ....

Not exactly sure what....but I'm leaning towards a bag...tote with these lovelies

I'm super excited to cut into this fun line from Red Rooster.... called Dog's World
I'm going to be making a fun picnic/game quilt...but so many ideas pop into my head for these cute fabrics...
Bags or a BackPack , pajamas (I wish I could sew cloths), kids cloths any cloths, how about a fun kid's,  room not to mention anything you might want to make for your pet.....look at those faces, are they not the most adorable dogs....
I'm thinking Polaroid  Quilt (I found a tutorial, I am going to use) for this panel....come on, just too cute

So that's what's on my cutting table for this week, along with some ongoing projects....
should keep me out of trouble....😂

If you've seen fabric you love, don't forget to ask your local quilt shop if they are getting it in!!
Or ask them to bring it in!!

Have a great weekend everyone and
Happy  4th of July to our neighbours to the south!!
