#25 WIPs

So I've tidied up my hobbyroom...

and I'm happy to say it looks pretty much like the pictures still!! Other than the blocks laying next to my sewing machine waiting to be sewn into another quilt top!!

 I finished the quilt as you go String Block quilt! I realized when I was starting to line up the blocks to lay them out, that there was no way to layout the front and know what was going to happen with the back of this quilt. So I literally tossed the blocks in the air and picked them up randomly from the floor into a pile and than began sewing the blocks together! Turned out fantastic!!!

I put the borders on the Craftsy BOM 2012 quilt! I ended up adding the brown (basic gray, grunge) border in and like it!! At first I was adding it because I had run out of the white background and couldn't find anymore, and was going to have to change whites, but by a fluke I came across some in a quilt shop. I decided to add it anyway because I didn't think there would be quite enough white, and it all worked out!!

 I made another wallet. This time I used upholstery fabric for the outer shell, and added the inset piece of fabric.

And completed block 15 in the Virtual Quilting Bee

and I know I keep saying next week, but this time I mean it!!! Next week this one( should ) will  be done and ready for its Post!!

 and Day #22 in the photo a day challenge is nature.....last of the flowers as fall hits us...

I think there is a life lesson in this picture...even in hard conditions when you think nothing could grow or be beautiful... there is strength and beauty!!!

Blocks 52-54 City Sampler

#19 Quilting Again

Last week I shared that my main sewing machine and long arm sewing machines were both not working. Well I am still down my main sewing machine (repair shop) but received the new screen for long arm and am up and running!!
So as promised on Instagram here are some of the mistakes in my quilting...

I am having a hard time learning on the quilting side of this art form, of making quilts!! I am self proclaimed, although I think my friend Kellie would readily agree, a bit of a perfectionist where quilting is concerned. Which I think is a plus on the piecing side of the equation, just not so much on the learning side of quilting!!! I see and hate every little missed curve, the stitch in the ditch that isn't quite in the ditch (with gray thread on black fabric), getting into the grove only to forget where exactly I'm going next.....you get the picture. I know it is crazy, I've only free motion quilted one quilt before this one, and I am expecting my body to be able to do what my eyes have only seen, the first time perfectly!! Not like I am putting any pressure on myself, lol!!



















Oh, well I am learning slowly to let go of the expectations and hope that every quilt shows improvement, so I can feel good about the big picture.  For now I will try and take my own advice, and "breath and enjoy the ride"!! Because half the fun of an adventure is getting there!!!
(I have to say in the light of a new day.... the mistakes are still there but I don't seem to mind as much!)

This is what I've been up to:

The Craftsy 2012 is sashed!! Just needs borders!! Still trying to decide what look I want?? I'm thinking of making strip sets of all the fabrics and cutting them at about 3" for the sides and a bit larger top and bottom for the border, if that makes sense? Any ideas or if you agree, please leave a comment below!!!! 

The quilt as you go project is coming together nicely!! I ended up with (64) 5.75" blocks.  I have to agree with Kelly over at My Quilt Infactuation, who is using her scraps in a new free form project,  my scraps seem to be multiplying not decreeing as I sew too!!

I shared that I was a part of Round 2 Sweet Pouch exchange and my pouch partner sent the cutest little pattern in with my sweets! I got that made this week too!! Ooh and I forgot to mention and take pictures, my  sweet pouch is reversible!!

#9 Cleaned Up!!

So last week I said I was going to clean up my hobby room so I could take pictures to share with you all. I also stated in the blog that I like to be organized, but than work my way into a mess, only to have to organize again. You would think I would have outgrown that, but alas I embrace my flaws!!
Well here's another... I get easily distracted by shiny new ideas....lol. So while I'm cleaning and organizing and checking in on instagram, I see this post from @sunnyincal. Beautiful. right!! Using her scraps. (great scraps by the way!!)

 And I thought, I'm tidying up, and this would fall under cleaning, right?? (girl math!!) lol (and it isn't like I was going shopping, I have everything already...)(more girl math) lol

  So I tidied up my batting and fabric scraps, and started another WIP!  Even though I said I wouldn't ! ;) oops.....

And even with all the distractions and added projects, I still managed to tidy up!!

I should mention,  I am doing my blocks as a quilt as you go. I had seen a YouTube tutorial from the Gourmet Quilter and thought this is the perfect time to try that. If you are new to this technique I posted pictures on my tutorial page and the link above will take you to the video I watched.
